If you have read any of the AZEX Pest Solutions previous blog posts you are well aware the bed bugs have made a major comeback in the United States. AZEX Pest Solutions is deep in the war against bed bugs and has been making great strides in reducing the number of bed bugs in Arizona; however, we still need your help. Educating the public about bed bugs is essential to the success of the AZEX mission to eradicate bed bugs from our state. While bed bugs may not be something that most people WANT to think about, with the 700% population increase that we have seen in the past few years, it is becoming something that NEEDS to be discussed.
A recent article published in a Hollywood newspaper outlined a terrible tale of a severe bed bug infestation that plagued a senior assisted living facility, which ultimately resulted in a $15,000 fine. A pest control company found over 4,000 live bed bugs in the 20 room facility, which was recorded in the state records. The deeply disturbing infestation was left untreated for an extended time, most likely months on end, which allowed it to grow into an extreme level. A local exterminator was able to solve the problem and the facility will remain open. State officials required the resignation of one of the owners.
Bed Bugs HATE heat; it’s a well-known fact in the pest control world. While more and more pest professionals are offering heat treatments to rid homes and businesses of bed bugs, AZEX is taking it one step further with their revolutionary STERIHEAT process.
Get the Facts:
- SteriHeat treatments are a 1 time treatment that have an active treatment time of 6-8 hours.
- Set up and tear down are included in the treatment times – meaning your home or business will be operational after just one full work day!
- Weather conditions, such as rain, wind or snow won’t effect the treatment accuracy.
As we are nearing warmer weather, many Arizona residents are gearing up for their yearly pest control services and preventative measures. One of the most hated insects native to Arizona is the Scorpion. Their painful sting can be dangerous, especially to small children, pets, or elderly.
Scorpions are arachnids and are related to spiders, mites, and ticks. Scorpions have 8 legs, an extended segmented body, an erectile tail, and a stinger. The first segment of the scorpions body is called the cephalothorax and includes the head, eyes, mouth, claws, and 4 of its legs. The claws are used to seize prey and defend the scorpion against predators.
Are you planning to move this year? Are you buying a new home or moving into a new rental or apartment? These times can be very stressful, especially if you unintentionally walk into a bed bug infestation! AZEX Pest Solutions is here to help you keep your moving experience bug free by offering K-9 inspections and heat treatments.
6 tips to make sure that you stay bed bug free throughout your move:
- Schedule a K-9 inspection before you purchase a home or sign a lease agreement. A pre-inspection will tell you if bed bugs are hiding in the walls, under carpets or in cracks and crevices in the walls where it is difficult to see. If bed bugs are detected during the inspection, a heat treatment can be applied to eliminate the bugs.
Because of the rise in bed bug infestations highlighted in the news, many Americans are on the look-out for bed bugs wherever they go. When a person sees a bug they don’t know, especially if it is on their bed, many will misidentify it as a bed bug. People also have been known to wake with unexplained bites and jump to the conclusion that they have bed bugs, when in reality they just got bitten by a mosquito the night before and didn’t realize. Misidentifying other bugs as bed bugs can cost hundreds in unneeded treatments and inspections.
There are countless DIY methods out there that claim to kill bed bugs. Just a quick Google search will bring up hundreds of articles claiming that you can rid yourself of bed bugs using “this magical method”. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. Bed bugs are extremely resilient and hearty. Bed bugs are known for reoccurring infestations because the eggs and nymphs are nearly impossible to see and like to hide inside furniture and bedding. A DY treatment MAY kill the live bugs, but with all of those eggs waiting to hatch, it’s just a matter of time before the bugs start to thrive again. We have compiled a list of some of the most popular DIY methods and why they don’t work. But, before you lose hope, we also have a method that DOES WORK – So read on, and find out the one way that kills bed bugs THE FIRST TIME!
Humans have been trying to eliminate bed bugs for 100’s of years. We have tried many different elimination methods, some of which have almost proven successful. But, over the years we have learned another lesson; bed bugs are extremely hardy and adaptable. Traditionally exterminators have used chemical treatments to kill the bugs. While this worked for many years, bed bugs have since developed a resistance to these chemicals and continued to thrive. With every new chemical substance that we introduce into our bed bug arsenal, not only do bed bugs evolve, we also damage the environment in the process. Here are some of the dangers that pesticides pose to our health and the health of our environment:
