3 Hardest Bugs to Eradicate from Your Home

No one is happy to find bugs living in or around their home, though we all have one or two we absolutely can’t stand. Whether it’s cockroaches, ants, mosquitos, or something of the eight-legged variety, there’ll be something that sends you running. The bugs you hate aren’t always the ones that are hard to get rid of (or deter), but unfortunately, sometimes they are.

The bugs on this list are some of the most difficult to eradicate with home DIY treatments or, often, even professional chemical ones. Here’s the list of the top 3:

3 Bugs Most Difficult to Eradicate

Bed Bugs

These nasty nippers aren’t just difficult to eradicate, they can be difficult to detect, too. If you’re someone who doesn’t show up with bites and itchy bumps, you may not know they’re making themselves quite at home in your mattress and in the nooks and crannies around your bed, sofa, and other soft furnishings where you spend most of your time.

If you don’t have bite marks, the first sign of bed bugs are usually dark red or brown dots on your light-colored bed sheets. These little spots of blood are either from you or blood that’s been digested by a bed bug.

Bed bugs are hard to kill because they know where to hide and have developed some immunity to chemical sprays. They lay their eggs in hard-to-reach places which means the average chemical spray or fumigation won’t kill the eggs. The only way to eradicate them is with a heat treatment, which heats the room to a temperature that kills bed bugs (and other insects) at all stages of life.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches wouldn’t really survive a nuclear bomb, but they have developed that kind of reputation for a reason. They are difficult to find and even more difficult to remove, but if they’ve decided to call your house or property home, you’ll likely see them scurrying around.

If you’ve got cockroaches the best way to get rid of them is to starve them of water and food sources, and the best way to prevent them is to seal any openings to your home or structures on your property. Of course, starving them out isn’t exactly a quick solution, and so often a heat treatment is best if they’re inside your home. If they’re outside, give our experts a call and we’ll help direct you to the best course of action.

Termites

Termites are certainly not something you want anywhere near your home. Termites are small and off-white or dark brown and black, depending on what type of termite they are. They can be found on any exposed wooden areas, as they like to chew through the wood. If you don’t know you’ve got them they can quickly cause significant damage. If you see wood dust around any exposed wood near or in your home, it’s best to get the experts in to find out if the cause is termites or something more innocent. Don’t wait if it’s winter, either – termites are active year-round.

To treat termites, you’ll usually need a combination of professional pest control treatments. Inside heat treatments may be an option and an effective way to kill them at all life stages, and outside traditional chemical treatments will usually be used to ensure the termites are eradicated.
